BJP president said that Rajinikanth first has to 'take the plunge into politics' before things can move forward.
Echoing his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) line that has been evident over the last few weeks from various leaders’ comments, Amit Shah today, on being asked about the growing clamour for Rajinikanth to enter politics said that he would welcome the superstar in the saffron fold anytime. However, considering that the superstar has so far been unwilling to indicate his next step, though he has dropped massive hints that he may do so, the BJP president said that Rajinikanth first has to ‘take the plunge into politics’ before things can move forward. Shah was speaking at an India Today TV event earlier in the day.
Rajinikanth had earlier said that he had no immediate plans to join politics. He had also said that if he joined politics then there would no space for ‘money-minded’ people. The superstar also added that he had made a mistake by backing a political party 21 years ago, according to The Indian Express.
The actor has also said just this week that, ”I will always perform the duties bestowed by God, so don’t feel disappointed if I don’t join politics”.
According to Indian Express sources, the superstar may visit New Delhi next week to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Informed sources have told IE that the announcement of Rajinikanth joining politics may come after the Presidential Elections scheduled for next month. IE reported that BJP contacted the actor on Friday to discuss a meeting with the Prime Minister.
BJP’s Tamil Nadu General Secretary Vanathi Srinivasan has maintained silence over rumours of Rajinikanth joining politics.
