Even as the protests for the implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme by the ex-servicemen escalates, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday urged war veterans to give the current NDA leadership 'a chance' to deliver on their promise.

Even as the protests for the implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme by the ex-servicemen escalates, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday urged war veterans to give the current NDA leadership ‘a chance’ to deliver on their promise.

“It is our request to the veterans that, they should give this government a chance because they have delivered on their promise, whereas the previous government didn’t do anything except promising,” BJP leader Sidharth Nath Singh told ANI.

Backing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement for implementation of the OROP, Singh said that it was fair statement coming from the government on the scheme, and added that if there were any issues left, a commission was there to look into it and would address them to the satisfaction of the veterans”.

“We shouldn’t forget that for 40 years there was nothing called OROP as it was being promised, but was never delivered,” he added.

Against the backdrop of the continuing protests by several ex-servicemen over OROP, Modi said it was for the first time that the government, while notifying its decision to implement the scheme, had also set up a commission to ensure there are no shortcomings in the process.

“It is a full proof arrangement,” he said.

The ex-servicemen protesting for the implementation of the OROP scheme on Wednesday tried to set their medals on fire though they were stopped by the policemen on duty at the Jantar Mantar.
