Micro-blogging websites such as Twitter and Facebook have become a new mode for common people to reach out to one and all, even ministers and more in government. And this case shows that the trend also includes the Prime Minister of India. Various instances have been recorded when the likes of Suresh Prabhu, Sushma Swaraj and many other political leaders, using Twitter, have stood up for and helped people in dire need. In a similar and yet rare gesture, PM Narendra Modi fulfilled the desire of a Twitter user Shilpi Tewari and thereby took the baton of being socially active way forward and perhaps set an example for the rest of his Cabinet at the Centre and others at state levels to emulate.

The Isha Foundation had organised an event on the occasion of Maha Shivratri in Coimbatore. PM Modi, who was the chief guest there, unveiled a 112 ft tall statue of Lord Shiva and later took to the stage to address guests who attended the event. During the event, PM Modi had draped a striking peacock blue-green-coloured stole that had Lord Shiva’s face on it.

Interestingly, the stole caught Tewari’s eyes and she immediately posted a tweet expressing her desire for the stole. She tweeted: “I want the stole of @narendramodi”, she tweeted along with a picture of the PM performing the aarti at the event.

Much to Tewari’s delight and surprise, the next day, she received the stole she had asked for. Along with the stole came a printout of her tweet which had PM’s signature on it.

Overwhelmed with PM Modi’s gesture, Tiwari shared a series of tweets thanking the prime minister. She later wrote, “Overwhelmed to receive blessings of Adiyogi from modern India’s Karmayogi, PM @narendramodi, who is covering miles daily yet hears us all! PM @narendramodi sent me this blessing because I had tweeted yesterday that I want this stole. Am I dreaming?? Along with the stole came this signed paper .. can you imagine a PM who listens to your voices and takes time to respond & personalise !! I am so stunned and overwhelmed right now that I am frozen .. can’t think how to respond. Matlab kamaal hi kar diya.”

During the event, PM Modi underlined the need for a peaceful co-existence. Addressing the people here, he said that Lord Shiva is everywhere. He also referred to bull, peacock and mouse that were said to be the vehicles of the Lord and his sons Ganapathy and Karthik. PM Modi also spoke about the acerb snake Vasuki coiled around Shiva’s neck to punctuate the value of peaceful coexistence.
