According to the EC, a sum total of 53,23,993 voters would be exercising their right to vote. According to last reports, the ruling Biju Janata Dal, led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was leading with 81 seats, while the Congress struggled with only 16. The biggest player in this election has been BJP, who has made miraculous groundwork in the state and is giving tough competition to the BJD as a viable option for replacing them.
The Panchayat elections which were conducted in Odisha in 5 phases saw BJP grabbing 71 seats in the first phase. In 2012, BJP had managed merely 12 seats. To sum it up in a better manner, BJP had won a total of 36 seats of the 853 seats in 2012.
