Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who has resigned from his post and the Governor has accepted it, made a spectacular revelation today and it has nothing to do with the fact that he has raised the banner of revolt against AIADMK chief Sasikala. The TN CM has confessed that even though he paid a visit to Apollo Hospital on a daily basis to try and meet the ailing leader, he was not allowed to meet her due to the machinations of the coterie that surrounded her, which was led by Sasikala. Panneerselvam revealed, “I had visited the hospital daily to enquire about Jayalalithaa’s health condition, but couldn’t meet her even once.” Jaya spent some 75 days in hospital before she breathed her last. Shockingly, reports have also emerged that the medical support staff had administered the wrong prescription to her, making things worse for her.
However, Sasikala in her reaction, not only sacked Panneerselvam as the Treasurer of AIADMK, but also said he was not speaking the truth. She said, “I did not force O Pannerselvam for anything, what he is saying is not correct.” That the future course of action, after his rebellion, depends totally on Sasikala was also made clear by Panneerselvam through his admission, “I am a staunch follower of AIADMK and will remain so, wait and see what will happen tomorrow.”

That the equations have deteriorated to quite a large extent between the two was also clear after Sasikala made some personal remarks and Panneerselvam hit back at her. Sasikala had said, “In recent assembly session opposition leader and O Panneerselvam exchanged warmth, they were smiling at each other.” The caretaker CM reacted in kind to say, “Looking at opposition leader and smiling at them isn’t a crime. I think smiling is not a crime.”
That he does not consider her as the true party leader and her decisions were not valid or official emerged from another comment that he gave which said, “I have carried forward the post of treasurer which was entrusted upon me by Amma & I think no one can take it away from me.”
However, Sasikala says she is determined to retain her hold on the party and brook no interference from any quarter. On being asked if O Pannerselvam will be removed from all party posts including AIADMK’s membership, she said, “Surely we will do it.”
While Panneerselvam says splitting AIADMK is the last thing on his mind as he would like to keep it united like Jayalalithaa wanted, still consequences may lead to that as the party looks to be on the verge of a split as many members are taking opposing sides. The latest to do so was senior leader M. Thambidurai who said, “Pannerselvam will go to Delhi to meet President and Home Ministry, he sought an appointment, he’ll try to form ministry. He will fail.”
