Objecting to alleged “derogatory” remarks against nurses on a popular TV comedy show, All India Government Nurses’ Federation (AIGNF) today demanded that I&B Minister Arun Jaitley direct the Censor board to ensure such instances are not repeated and sought apology from those who made it.
In a letter to Information and Broadcasting Minister Jaitley, the AIGNF insisted the footage of May 7 and May 8 episodes of the show, in which the alleged derogatory remarks were made, are removed from the internet and those who made the comments apologise to the nursing fraternity.
The federation also warned it will be “forced” to agitate to express its anger and disappointment if “noble professionals” like nurses are used as “entertainment tools”.
The show is aired on a leading entertainment TV channel.
“Derogatory remarks have been used towards the nurses on the show, leaving the fraternity disappointed, AIGNF secretary general GK Khurana said in the letter.
He requested Jaitley to direct the Censor board so that such “irresponsible” remarks towards any noble profession are not shown.
The federation rued that such “irresponsible” comments have come at a time juncture when “responsible society” and people like President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have described nurses as “angles and healer of soul”.
“Nurses are not an entertainment material. So, they can not be used as an entertainment tool in the show in future. Otherwise we will be forced to agitate to show our anger and disappointment,” Khurana said.
The federation has forwarded copies of the letter to Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Censor board chairman Pahlaj Nihlani, the TV channel and comedians concerned.
