This comes days after a number of jawans used social media to highlight the poor conditions in which they are being forced to live in as well as long duty hours and ill-treatment they receive from the senior officials. A few weeks earlier, BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav posted a series of videos online to expose the hardships jawans face on the border. His wife recently claimed that her husband was forced to retire and arrested soon after he posted the videos. She further claimed that her husband called her up using someone else’s phone to tell her that he was arrested and was being mentally tortured. In the wake of a number of these cases, including those in the Army, being highlighted in the media, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat had come out and said that he will investigate the matter if needed. The Army had meanwhile set up a WhatsApp number for its soldiers to share their problems directly with General Bipin Rawat instead to going to social media.
