North Bengal Panchayat Election Results 2022, Bengal GTA Election Results 2022: The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday won 320 out of the 462 seats in 22 gram panchayats in the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Elections. TMC has won 320 seats, while the BJP has won 86 seats. While the Congress has won 21 gram panchayat seats, the CPI(M) has won only 15. The Independents have bagged 20 seats.
Anit Thapa’s party Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM) is set to form the board at the 45-member Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) board. While the ruling TMC party has grabbed five seats in the GTA polls, the Independents have won five seats as well. This is the first time since the formation of the GTA in 2012 that the TMC has managed to win any seat. The newly-formed Hamro party has won eight seats so far, while BGPM has won 27 seats. The Independents have fared well, winning seven seats so far. In an election, which has been boycotted by BJP and its local allies, the Independents comprised of two-third of the total candidates fielded for the GTA elections.
Reacting to the poll results, the Hamro Party, which had won the Darjeeling Municipality a few months back, said it would play the role of a responsible opposition in the GTA. “The people of the hills have given a mandate. We accept it with all humility,” Hamro Party chief Ajoy Edwards said. (PTI)
The TMC's Binay Tamang, who is one of the victorious candidates in GTA polls, said that the party would continue to work for the development of the hills.
The TMC contested 10 seats, and won five. The election to GTA is important as whoever controls it gets the upper hand in the hill politics. (PTI)
“This win is dedicated to the people of north Bengal hills who have put their faith in us. We will work for the development of the people in this region,” Thapa told reporters, as reported by The Indian Express.
The BGPM party, which was formed in September last year, is all set to form the GTA board after it won 27 out of the 45 seats. The party was formed by Anit Thapa, who was with the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) before.
Out of six byelections held across six municipalities, TMC has bagged four seats, while the Congress and the CPI(M) have won one each.

Hamro Party founder Ajoy Edwards has said that he was surprised that the ruling TMC party managed to bag five seats in the GTA polls. In the last two civic body polls in Darjeeling, the TMC had managed to win collectively three seats — 1 in 2017, and 2 in 2022.
After being launched in January by Ajoy Edwards, Hamro Party has impressed all. First, they swept the Muncipal Polls in Darjeeling earlier this year, winning 18 out of 32 seats. In the GTA polls, the party has won eight seats.
TMC has won 19 out of the 22 seats so far. The results for the three remaining seats are yet to be announced.
The elections to the GTA, the semi-autonomous council that governs the Darjeeling Hills, are being held after a decade amid a sea of change in the political dynamics of the region.
Voting for the GTA polls in Darjeeling hills was held on June 26, which saw a turnout of 57 per cent. GTA, which came into being in 2011, has 45 seats spread across Kalimpong district and parts of Darjeeling district. Voting was held in 922 polling stations, of which five have been identified as critical.
The fight for the 462 seats in the Siliguri subdivisional council panchayat elections is still underway, with the ruling TMC leading substantially in 311 seats. The BJP is at a distant second, leading in only 74 seats, following by the Congress which has grabbed 16 seats. The Left Front and Independents have been declared winners in 12 and 11 seats respectively.

In the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Panchayat polls, the ruling TMC is ahead in 283 out of 462 seats. The BJP is at a distant second, leading in only 65 seats. While the Congress is ahead in 11 seats, the Left Front is ahead in 8.

Bikash Rai, an Independent candidate, won from Center Number 33, while another Independent candidate Anup Chetri is ahead in Center Number 34.
Ward number 3 of Bhatpara Municpality: Trinamool Congress' Kanaklata Das wins by 155 votes.
Ward 29 of South Dumdum Municipality: Trinamool candidate Banashree Chatterjee wins by 9,277 votes.
Ward 17 of Chandannagar Municipal Corporation: CPI(M) candidate Ashok Gangopadhyay wins Ward 17 by 130 votes.
Anit Thapa led Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha wins in Darjeeling District's Sonada town. Independent candidate Bikash Roy wins a seat in Kalimpong.
Binay Tamang from the ruling Trinamool Congress party emerged victorious in Darjeeling's Dali. He won by more than 500 votes.
The Congress candidate wins in Jhalda. Mithun Kandu of the Congress won by 6 votes. In other words, the Congress retained its seat.
Ward No. 8 of Panihati Municipality: Trinamool Congress candidate Meenakshi Dutta wins by 2,284 votes. After Wednesday's victory, late TMC leader Anupam's wife said, “Ordinary people were by my side. I will be by the side of ordinary people. It is an unparalleled victory. I will go ahead on the path shown by him. '
The counting of votes is underway for GTA polls in Bengal’s Darjeeling, along with 22 gram panchayats under the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad in north Bengal and by-polls at six municipal wards in the districts of North 24 Parganas, Hooghly and Purulia.
