The National Investigative Agency on Monday submitted the chargesheet on the Pathankot terror attack in its Mohali court on Monday. According to India Today, the charge sheet contains the phone conversations of 4 terrorists among other things. The report also suggests that the NIA is to name Masoor Azhar and 7 others among the terrorists that were behind the attacks. The NIA report is also speculated to establish the fact that Masood Azhar was the mastermind of the attack. 2 other handlers have also been named in the charge sheet. This report is expected to establish the role of Jaish-e Mohammed in the terror attacks that had killed 6 Indian security personnel.

Earlier on January 2, 2016, a heavily armed group of militants had attacked the Pathankot airbase. The gun battle and the subsequent combing operation had lasted about 17 hours, resulting in five attackers and three security personnel dead. Three others were later declared dead after being admitted to hospital following grave injuries. The attack led to a breakdown in India-Pakistan relations, which had become worse after Pakistan’s alleged interference in India’s internal matters. Media reports suggested that the attack was an attempt to derail a fragile peace process meant to stabilise the deteriorated relations between India and Pakistan.

The probe also revealed that the FB groups accessed by friends of Kashif Jaan, JeM handler were related to Jihad and contained pictures of the four killed terrorists Nasir Hussain, Hafiz Abu Bakar, Umar Farooq and Abdul Qayum.
