Breaking his silence after resigning from Rajya Sabha on July 18, Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday cleared the air and told the media that he resigned because he was told not to concentrate on Punjab. “I resigned because I was told you won’t look towards Punjab. How can Navjot Sidhu leave his people?,” he said. He further said “How could I anandon the people who elected me to represent them so many times?”. Stating that no party is above Punjab for him, he said “I cannot betray my roots and leave my land”.

Speculations still remain rife whether he will be joining the Aam Aadmi Party or no as Sidhu refused to comment on the issue. BJP tried to take Sidhu again into confidence before the Punjab assembly elections in 2017 by giving him a Rajya Sabha berth. Sidhu, however, shocked many by resigning on the first day of ongoing Monsoon session. AAP Punjab chief said that Sidhu was welcome to join the party. His wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, is also a BJP leader and an MLA from Punjab. It is expected that she too will join AAP along with her husband.

On the other hand, former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress leader Amarinder Singh had also said that Sidhu would be welcome to join the party if he wished so.
