Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu today resigned from the BJP membership. While Sidhu had quit Rajya Sabha previously, Navjot Kaur was BJP MLA in the Punjab Assembly till now. She alleged that the party was not letting her work. “I am an individual, I have only picked up issues of my zone. Not being allowed to do,” Navjot Kaur told reporters.
The couple will now work for a new front Awaaz-e-Punjab. Navjot Kaur alleged that the present Punjab CM doesn’t talk to her directly. “If I have to say anything to Mr. Badal, he makes falls phone calls and avoids direct conversation. I have to stand out and wait for him to come to address my issues.” She further said that BJP government was not concerned much about Punjab. “For water, they (BJP government) gave so much money to Rajasthan but they won’t give the same to Punjab, why? Is this democracy or dictatorship?”
Cricketer-turned political Navjot Sidhu had announced the launch of his front Awaaz-e-Punjab on September 9. Announcing the political front of “like-minded” people who want to see Punjab become prosperous again, Sidhu launched an attack on his prominent rivals — the BJP-SAD combine and the AAP.
Recently, Punjab Congress chief and former state CM Amarinder Singh had rubbished Sidhu’s political front Awaaz-e-Punjab as a “fishy” venture as he and his wife had not quit the BJP. Singh told The Hindustan Times that Sidhu’s political front was a “gang of four” and there is something “fishy”‘about the Awaaz-e-Punjab. “There is something fishy going on… he’s (Sidhu) is putting together this group while he’s still in the BJP. His wife (Navjot Kaur Sidhu) is announcing that she continues to be in the BJP,” HT quoted the former Punjab CM as saying.
