Nashik Municipal Election Results 2026 Highlights: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) won 72 of the 122 seats in the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday. The party had already been in charge of the civic body before.
Voting for the (NMC) was conducted on January 15 as part of Maharashtra’s large-scale civic elections covering 29 municipal corporations.
As reported by Loksatta, the Nashik civic polls were conducted after several delays over the years because of the pandemic, reservation issues, and court proceedings. After receiving directions from the Supreme Court, the State Election Commission finalised the schedule by bringing local body polls back after a long gap of nearly eight years. Why the Nashik civic results matter
Nashik Municipal Corporation has 31 wards and 122 seats, with one corporator elected from each seat. Issues like sanitation, water supply, urban development, and traffic management dominated the campaign. As per Loksatta, in the 2017 NMC election, which was held eight years ago, the BJP was declared as the single largest party, followed by Shiv Sena and independents.
Pune’s civic polling on Thursday was reported to be mostly peaceful, according to the police, but there were some complaints related to cash distribution, fading ink marks, and bogus voting claims. Joint CP Ranjan has cited around 7-8 complaints. Officials have replaced 26 control units and 76 ballot units because of the glitches, as reported by PTI. Exit polls for Thursday’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election showed that the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has a clear lead, whereas the Shiv Sena (UBT)-Maharashtra Navnirman Sena combine is expected to lose ground. According to My Axis India poll, the BJ-Shiv Sena could win 131 to 151 seats with about 42% of the vote.
