Narendra Modi Sardar Sarovar Dam inauguration Live Updates: PM has inaugurated the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the river Narmada – this coincides with his 67 th birthday. The dam’s foundation stone was laid as far back as April 5, 1961 by former PM Jawaharlal Nehru. However, it took 56 years to complete its construction. The dam is the highest one ever built in India. The massive statistics, as listed by IANS, show that the dam is 1.2-km-long dam and 163 metres deep. Till date, it has produced as much as 4,141 crore units of electricity. It has two powerhouses, one is the river bed powerhouse and the other is the canal head powerhouse. Their installed capacity is 1,200 MW and 250 MW. PM Modi reached Ahmedabad last night.
