Two Surat sisters had filed a rape case against Narayan Sai in 2013. One of the sisters had alleged that she was sexually abused by Narayan Sai multiple times.
Narayan Sai gets life term: Narayan Sai, son of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, was sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case by a Surat court on Tuesday. Narayan Sai, 47, and his father are currently lodged in jail is connection with separate cases of sexual assault. The court had last week convicted Narayan Sai under IPC sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 323 (assault), 506-2 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (conspiracy).
Two Surat sisters had filed a rape case against Narayan Sai in 2013. One of the sisters had alleged that she was sexually abused by Narayan Sai multiple times when she was staying at his ashram between 2002 to 2005. He was arrested from Kurukshetra in Haryana in December 2013. A 1,100-page charge sheet was filed against Narayan Sai by the Surat Police in 2014.
The court had also found Narayan Sai’s aides – Dharmishtha alias Ganga, Bhavna alias Jamuna and Pavan alias Hanuman – guilty in the crime. His driver Rajkumar alias Ramesh Malhotra was also held guilty for harbouring an offender.
Asaram, who is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail, is also serving a life term after being convicted of raping a minor girl in his ashram in 2013. Asaram, 78, was arrested from Indore 2013 over complaint filed by a girl from Shahajahanpur in Uttar Pradesh accusing him of rape. The girl alleged that the godman abused her at his ashram situated in Manai village near Jodhpur in Rajasthan in August, 2013.
Asaram is also facing trial in another sexual assault case filed in Gujarat.
