Narak Chaturdashi 2017: The nation is all geared up to celebrate Narak Chaturdashi, popularly known as Choti Diwali today. It is celebrated a day before the main Diwali festival that is falling on October 19 this year. The day is celebrated on the 14th day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik (October-November). It is the second day of the five-day long festival starting from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj that falls on October 21.

On this auspicious day, people celebrate the occasion by lighting candles and diyas in and around their homes. They also exchange sweets and Diwali greetings with their near and dear ones. People all around are seen in a joyous mood. In fact, people start shopping for the occasion almost a month in advance and purchase clothes, sweets and dry fruits from the markets. During the day of Choti Diwali and the main festival people were new clothes and eat delicious food and also worship Lord Ganesha and goddess Lakshmi. Kali Puja is also seen is some parts of the country including West Bengal.
