Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung today asked for files of all important decisions taken by the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government. In a letter issued on behalf of the LG to heads of all government departments, autonomous bodies and corporations under the Delhi government, officials have been asked to submit files of all major decisions for which LG’s permission was required but not taken by the present government. The LG’s letter comes just a few days after the Delhi High Court declared that Delhi continues to be a Union Territory under the Constitution with the LG as its administrative head. Not happy with the judgement, AAP government has moved the Supreme Court.

The AAP government contends that  Delhi is a special case as it is both a Union Territory and has its own legislature also. “People sent us to power to control corruption in power distribution companies, to check commission-system in transfer posting of officials…Without any power, how can we meet the demand of people of Delhi,” AAP minister Manis Sisodia had said in a press conference recently.  Claiming that the HC verdict “poses a question on Democracy”, he said “When ‘we the people’ chose a government, do they have any value? Do people have any right? Where the people of Delhi will go? When they have chosen their MLAs? Will they go to LG or Delhi government,” he asked.

The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned hearing of AAP government’s original suit of June 29. The SC will now hear AAP government’s original suit and the SLP against Delhi HC’s judgement on interpretation of 239 AA  together.
