Nagrota and Samba attack in Kashmir: Top 5 key points to know

The deadliest attack since the surgical strikes that took place in Nagrota area of Jammu and Kashmir costs India seven soldiers' life but army nutrelised the all three militants.

In one of the deadliest strikes in India in the wake of the Uri attack, Pakistan based terrorists launched a two-pronged attack in Kashmir (Nagrota and Ramgarh area of Samba near the international border) that led to the killing of as many as 7 Indian personnel, including two officers and 5 jawans. In retaliation, Indian security forces have killed as many as three terrorists. Now, firing has been stopped and the securitymen are carrying out a clean-up exercise and ensuring there are no more gunmen left alive. but there is no normallcy. The situation created by the attack was extremely serious and comes on the day that the new Pakistan army chief has taken over from his predecessor Raheel Sharif. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who has been saying that there has been no attack from Pakistan side for days, has had to rush to PM Narendra Modi and brief him on today’s attack. This also indicates that the new general in Pakistan is likely to follow a hawkish policy too. Know everything here about the attack in 5 points:

1. The firing started at around 5:30 am on Tuesday when the terrorists attacked an Army unit and opened heavy fire on security men in Nagrota belt.

2. Initial reports said at least two Indian soldiers were wounded in the attack in Nagrota tehsil. Another attack was launched in Samba. Later on, in an update, the Army said that both the jawans had been martyred.

3. In view of the attack authorities sounded alert and the Jammu-Srinagar Highway was closed for traffic.The district administration closed all schools in Nagrota tehsil and security was stepped up in and around Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishnodevi cave shrine in Trikuta hills of Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district.

4. Three terrorists were gunned down by BSF in Ramgarh area of Samba near the International Border after an encounter that lasted several hours and was followed by intense cross-border firing by Pakistani troops. ADG BSF said that after examination of terrorists’ bodies, 3 AK 47, 20 AK magazines, 16 pistol rounds, 31 grenades and other war like stores were recovered.

5. In the evening, during a hostage-like crisis, the brave Indian soldiers diffused a hostage-like situation in which they saved two women and two children even as they sacrificed their lives in order to free them and kill the gunmen. The latest figures indicate that as many as 7 Indian securitymen are dead, while three terrorists have been neutralised.
