Muzaffarpur tragedy: The opposition parties of Bihar on Tuesday staged a protest outside the Legislative Assembly over Muzaffarpur hit and run case in which nine children were killed. A number of leaders were seen holding placards with slogans written against Nitish Kumar government. Meanwhile, leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also slammed BJP for shielding the accused Manoj Baitha, who has been reportedly arrested by police. Yadav said that accused Manoj Baitha was drunk and government shielded him so that his medical samples could not be taken in time. Yadav also demanded that Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Modi should apologise and Nitish Kumar must break his silence over the issue. “We don’t think that any issue is bigger than justice for poor children,” Yadav said outside the Assembly.
“First Day Sushil Modi said, there is no such Leader in BJP. They totally disowned him. Next day when pressure built up, He said, Yes he is our senior leader. Today after our meeting with Governor, BJP did nautanki of expelling him. They are such fraud and liars,” Yadav earlier wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, BJP has suspended Manoj Baitha from party’s membership for six years for his involvement in Muzaffarpur accident in which nine students were killed, according to ANI.
Earlier, RJD alleged that the SUV which mowed down nine children on Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi road two days ago was driven by a drunk BJP leader and Nitish Kumar government was trying to shield him. Speaking to media, Yadav had said that prohibition in Bihar was a farce and the ghastly incident in Muzaffarpur proved it.
Speaking on the issue, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said security agencies have been asked to take sternest possible action against the accused, “irrespective of political affiliations”. Later, Tejashwi Yadav also led a march to Raj Bhawan and submitted a memorandum to Governor Satya Pal Malik. Yadav said that identity of the accused is known as the police have registered an FIR against a named person. He added that no arrest has been made yet. “We suspect he has been asked by his political bosses to hide for some time so that no trace of alcohol is found in his blood during the investigation,” Yadav said.
In a tragic incident, nine children were killed in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar on Saturday. The incident took place on the Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi highway.
