Actor Kamaal R Khan was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Saturday in connection with a firing incident in Oshiwara. Officials said the incident was reported from a residential building in the suburb earlier this week. The actor will be produced before a local court later today — with the Mumbai Police seeking custody.
KRK arrested after admitting to firing
According to the police, the actor was detained in the case after admitting during questioning that the firing was done with his licensed gun. The Mumbai Police had reviewed CCTV footage from the area and spoken to several people as part of its investigation.
The self-proclaimed film critic was initially taken into custody for questioning and arrested after subsequent details emerged. Khan will be Kamaal will be produced before the court today, after which the police will seek his custody to carry out further investigation.
What is the case?
Shots had rung out in Oshiwara earlier this week — sparking panic and a police investigation. According to reports, two bullets had been recovered from Nalanda Society following the January 18 incident. One was reportedly found in a second-floor flat belonging to a writer-director while the second was recovered from the fourth floor of the building. No injuries were flagged.
A Hindustan Times report quoted DCP Dikshit Gedam of Zone 9 to add that KRK had admitted to firing the shots. The bullets were ejected from his licensed firearm while he was cleaning it. Officials told the publication that the weapon had been seized and further legal paperwork was underway.
“Actor-producer Kamaal R Khan arrested after questioning in connection with an incident of firing in the Oshiwara area of Mumbai. He will be produced before the Court today. Police will take him into custody and carry out further investigation,” summed up an update from the Mumbai Police.
