One person was killed after a massive fire broke out at a restaurant in Mumbai’s Kamathipura area during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

Fire officials found the charred body of an unidentified man in the restaurant’s bathroom, subsequently transporting it to JJ Hospital, ANI reported.

In response to the fire, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials evacuated a nearby mall and a high-rise building, with no reported injuries so far. The officials indicated a level-4 fire erupted at a restaurant in Kamathipura, located at Mumbai’s Grant Road.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) declared the incident a Level II fire at 2:22 am, Level III at 2:28 am, and escalated it to a Level IV fire at 3:03 am on Friday. The initial report of the fire came in at 2:07 am on Friday.

To combat the blaze, a total of 16 fire engines were deployed. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
