Mumbai building collapse: A three-storey building collapsed this morning in south Mumbai's Bhendi Bazaar following heavy rains and floods.

Mumbai building collapse: A three-storey building collapsed this morning in south Mumbai’s Bhendi Bazaar following heavy rains and floods. Six people have been killed, three others have been rescued so far while many are feared trapped, as per fire department sources. Locals said the incident took place at around 8.30 am. The NDRF teams, fire brigade, and other emergency care service providers are carrying out the rescue and relief operations. The Arsiwala building, which collapsed, houses more than 24 people. The building is located in one of Mumbai’s busiest marketplace, as per NDTV.

1. Arsiwala building collapses at around 8.30 am. The number of people trapped could be as many as 50, according to reports.

2.  12 casualties have been reported to JJ Hospital out of which six has been declared dead.

3. The municipal office received the call about building collapse at around 8.40 am.

4. “We immediately rushed fire brigade personnel to the site to rescue the trapped people. We fear that several people are trapped under the debris,” the officer was quoted as saying by NDTV.

5. The tragedy took place 1 day after a heavy downpour lashed Mumbai city and led to widespread waterlogging.

6. “The onus is on the BMC. We do know that many buildings which had been cleared by the BMC had also collapsed. The chief minister will definitely take stock of the situation,” Shaina NC, BJP leader, was quoted as saying by Firstpost.

7. NDRF tweeted: “NDRF team moves to the building collapse site at Dongri area, Bhendi Bazar, Mumbai”

8. Police suspects possible gas leakage in the area. The police also appealed the people not to light any inflammatory material or use electricity, as per Mumbai Mirror.

9. Electricity in the area is also cut off in the view of safety.

10. A building being demolished in Mumbai’s Chandivali had crashed killing six people on August 26 last year, NDTV revealed.
