Satyawan Sehrawat aka Sonu Dariyapur, Delhi’s most wanted criminal was captured by police after a dramatic chase and shootout in Narela, outer Delhi on Thursday morning. A day after his arrest Sonu told police he sought help from another top criminal in Rajasthan- Anand Pal Singh. Interestingly, Singh was the most wanted criminal in Rajasthan and was responsible for “logistical support and procuring weapons” for Sonu, as per IE report. Sonu added that Singh also offered him shelter when he was on the run from the Delhi Police. The gangster has been sent to seven days custody. According to IE report, Singh had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head and was shot dead in an encounter in Churu, Rajasthan on June 24 by the state police.
As per IE sources, Sonu bought a 9mm pistol from Singh, which was used to kill Monu Dariyapur on April 30. The pistol was recovered by the police, which was in Sonu’s possession during his arrest. Notably, the weapon can fire 15 rounds in one go.
Furthermore, Sonu told police that the other weapons that were used in the crime were bought from contacts in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, reported IE. Police said his accomplice, Rajesh alias Rajje, a wanted criminal of Haryana, and gangster Manjeet Mahal, who is presently behind bars, also helped him get weapons.
As per IE report, police said that while Sonu was on the run, he visited Rajasthan to meet Singh. However, Singh was in hiding from the Rajasthan police and hence could not help him.
Sources said Sonu had approached Singh through a local criminal in Delhi. Sonu told him how his cousin married his friend, Monu, against his wishes and that he wanted revenge. Singh, who carried sophisticated weapons such as AK-47s and foreign-made pistols, extended support, police said. Sonu paid Singh a “huge sum” but is yet to disclose the exact amount, police said.
