Issuing a clarification, Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh on Monday said that organisation’s chief Mohan Bhagwat never said that Hindus should give birth to more children, instead, he demanded a common law for population control. “Mohan Bhagwat did not say Hindus should produce more children, he said which law stops you from producing more children”, RSS was quoted as saying by ANI. “He inteded to say that there should be a common law about population growth applicable to all”, added RSS.
While interacting with young couples at an Agra college, the RSS chief said, “Which law says that the population of Hindus’ should not rise? What is stopping them when population of others is rising. The issue is not related to the system. It is because the social environment is like this.”
Talking about his affiliation with the BJP, Bhagwat also said that he shouldn’t be perceived as a “messenger” of the saffron party. Bhagwat urged the couples to work for family values and filling patriotic sentiments in their children. The RSS head was addressing the college students as a part of his four-day visit to the city which includes group interactions with people representing various social strata and professions.
RSS chief’s comments drew sharp criticism on social media as people called the idea of giving birth to more children regressive. Lashing out at Bhagwat, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that RSS chief should himself give birth to 10 children first to set an example for others. “Before inciting Hindu, Bhagwat ji himself should produce and nurture 10 children by setting an example,” tweeted Kejriwal taking a swipe at Bhagwat.
