Tamil Nadu authorities have handed over the probe into an alleged attack on YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar’s residence to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID). The move follows Shankar’s accusations of police inaction and complicity, as well as a formal request by Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A Arun to transfer the case to another agency.
The incident unfolded on Monday in Chennai’s Kilpauk, where a mob of over 20 people, some disguised as sanitary workers, stormed Shankar’s house. His mother, who was alone at home, filed a complaint stating that the intruders broke through the door and dumped sewage mixed with human waste inside. Before leaving, the assailants allegedly warned her, “Now we have stopped with this. Next time, we will set fire to you inside the house.”

In a series of posts on X, Shankar accused Chennai Police Commissioner A Arun of being behind the attack and released CCTV footage showing the group vandalising his home. He also alleged that the intruders snatched his mother’s phone, initiated a video call with him and issued direct threats before staging a protest outside his residence, demanding his arrest.
The mother suspects the attack was linked to Shankar’s recent expose on alleged corruption in the procurement of sewage trucks. The YouTuber has since pointed fingers at top Chennai police officials, claiming the assault was orchestrated at their behest.
Addressing the media, Shankar defended his recent statements, asserting that his exposé was about corruption in vehicle procurement, not an attack on sanitary workers. His latest videos have also implicated a senior Congress leader in corruption allegations. Savukku also announced that he is shutting down his YouTube channel – Savukku Media Network.
