The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena was seen outside Karan Johar’s residence protesting against the producer for casting Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in his movie. The MNS has been very vocal about Pakistani artists getting employed in India and had issued a 48-hour notice to Karan Johar’s Dharma productions. MNS had demanded that all the Pakistani artists leave the country or the movies they have starred in, would face trouble releasing.
The MNS, in the past, has often come down to public vandalism in the cases where its demands have not been met. It had earlier torn down posters and vandalised cinema halls showing Shah Rukh Khan’s “My name is Khan” over the Bollywood star’s statement that Pakistani players should be allowed to play in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. MNS chief Raj Thackrey, in the past, has often made news for his regionalist sentiments.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar, in an interaction with the media had said that throwing out Pakistani artists out of the country or not giving them roles in movies is not the solution to the terror crisis. He had said that issuing such notices is only a means of choosing soft targets. It doesn’t solve the problem, he had added. Johar had said that his father was a freedom fighter and so he knows the value of Indian lives and it saddened him to see the lives lost in terror attacks, but choosing soft targets to fire at is no solution to the larger crisis at hand.
