The Gujarat businessman Mahesh Shah has been detained by the Income Tax department on Saturday and going through interrogation. The Ahemdabad-based man had gone reportedly missing a day after he had declared Rs 13,860 crores as unaccounted wealth and asked to deposit a tax of Rs 1,560 crore. In an interaction, he has claimed that the declared “black money” does not entirely belong to him. He has also tipped off that portions of money might belongs to politicians and claimed to reveal all the names soon.
Mahesh had declared a whopping amount of money as illicit wealth to Income Tax Authorities before went missing. But while the Income Tax authorities were on the lookout for Mahesh, he reached the office of News18 India and got ready to discuss over the “black money” issue. Asked about the motive behind hiding himself and then suddenly appearing in a media house, Mahesh said that he got scared and thus, did not prefer to go to I-T department directly.
Interacting with News18 India, he revealed that the entire unaccounted wealth do not belong to him and many others have share in it including politicians, officials and businessmen. He further expressed his grief saying that all the other people who had share in the money had taken backstep. Though he did not disclose their names on the spot, he said that he will reveal everything on the right time. He requested not to harras his family because of the issue.
While he was interacting, a team of I-T reached the media house and detained Mahesh on the spot. After an initial questioning, he had taken by the team for the detailed interrogation.
