Minor earthquake jolts northern Pak

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted large parts of Pakistan's northern region on Tuesday morning, including several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan provinces.

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted large parts of Pakistan’s northern region on Tuesday morning, including several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan provinces.

The Dawn quoted the Met Office as saying that tremors were felt around 3 a.m. and the epicentre of the quake was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range on the Afghan-Tajik border, 300 kilometres from Peshawar, at a depth of 190 kilometres.

The tremors recorded in Lahore measured 5.2, while shocks were also felt in Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Gilgit, Ghazar, Chitral, Mansehra, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree and other adjoining areas, including Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

No casualty or damages were reported.
