Model and actor Meghna Patel, who was in the news during the 2014 General Elections for posing semi-nude with pictures of then Prime Ministerial Candidate Narendra Modi, has reportedly decided to step into politics, but not with the BJP. Meghna has reportedly joined the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress party (NCP). Meghna was welcomed into NCP by the party’s senior leader and former Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel during his visit to Vadodara on Sunday. Patel said, “Meghna has won hearts of many people with her acting in several South Indian as well other films. Now that she has joined NCP, we hope she will strengthen the party.” Gujarat NCP chief Jayant Patel has also supported Meghna, following her decision to join NCP. He said that several leaders often join opposition parties, so there is nothing wrong if she has joined NCP, though she had earlier promoted BJP.
During the heat of 2014 General Elections, Meghna had created a storm by posing semi-nude with several photos of Modi. The photos soon become viral. While the model was attacked for orchestrating a publicity stunt, she had clarified that she posed semi-nude to show her support for Modi. The Gujarat BJP was, however, not happy with the model’s stunt. The BJP leaders had said the model was part of a conspiracy to defame Modi. Former MP from Gujarat Vijay Rupani had then said that getting semi-nude photos clicked was against Indian culture and civilisation. Meghna has worked against the culture of India and BJP had nothing to do with it, he had said, adding, no civilised society would appreciate nude photography.
