Prime Minister congratulated BJP on the big win in MCD elections in Delhi. Modi also expressed his gratitude towards the people of Delhi for their faith on BJP. Modi tweeted: “Grateful to the people of Delhi for the faith in BJP. I laud the hard work of team @BJP4Delhi which made the resounding MCD win possible.” Earlier, BJP Chief Amit Shah, while speaking to media in Kolkata, West Bengal, said that the result in Delhi is another push in BJP’s victory march. He also took a dig at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP government. Shah said that the results show that it is an end of politics of negativity. He added that BJP’s welfare politics of ‘sabka death’ has won over the politics of blame game and excuses. Shah had also said that the results are like a stamp of approval on the three years of work done by PM Narendra Modi in the country.
Meanwhile, Modi also tweeted about having held an extensive meeting to review progress in key infrastructure sectors like roads, railways, airports, ports, digital and coal. He also tweeted about the comprehensive talks with Srilanka PM Ranil Wickremesinghe on ways to strengthen ties between the nations. He wrote: “Our sole focus is India’s progress & prosperity of every Indian. Every moment of our time is devoted towards creating a new India.”
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress President Ajay Maken has reportedly resigned after taking responsibility for the defeat. According to the latest trends in MCD election results, Delhi appears to have rejected the Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal’s brand of politics. Additionally, AAP leaders have come out to blame the EVMs for the election results. AAP leader Ashutosh, while talking to reporters, has questioned the use of EVMs in the MCD elections 2017. He claimed that BJP has not done anything in the last 10 years, and he wondered why would the people vote for it. Manish Sisodia in a press conference said that the Delhi verdict is unbelievable. Meanwhile, Nitin Gadkari bashed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by saying he should concentrate on development instead of EVM machines. BJP Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari gives credit to Narendra Modi’s vision and hard work of party workers.
Currently, BJP leads in all the 3 municipal corporations in Delhi, three days after voting took place in 270 wards across the three civic bodies – North Delhi Municipal Corporation, South Delhi Municipal Corporation and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
The MCD elections were held on April 23 which saw a voter turnout of almost 53.58 per cent, marginally higher than the 2012 elections.
