Lok Sabha Election 2019: Mayawati asked her supporters not to get disheartened by her decision not to contest the upcoming general elections.
Lok Sabha Election 2019: Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday made it clear that she won’t contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister asked her followers not to be disappointed with her decision. The BSP chief, while announcing her decision, also discreetly revealed her PM ambitions.
After announcing her decision not to contest the general elections at a press conference in Lucknow, Mayawati took to Twitter to add to her statement recalling the circumstances under which she became the CM for the first time in 1995.
“When I became UP Chief Minister first time in 1995, I was not a member of either UP assembly or council. Similarly is the provision at the Centre where a person have to be a Loksabha/Rajya Sabha member within six months of holding office of minister/prime minister. Don’t get disheartened from my decision of not to contest LS poll now,” Mayawati said in her Hindi tweet.

The Congress also sought to oblige the alliance saying it will leave seven UP seats for the SP-BSP-RLD alliance. However, the offer was turned down by Mayawati.
