At least nine people were killed after a massive fire broke out at a plastic godown near Bawana industrial area in New Delhi. According to the initial report, 10 fire tenders have been rushed to the spot. The fire, which broke out this evening, has been brought under control. However, the cooling operations are on and many have been evacuated from the building. The Delhi Fire Services received a call about the fire at the factory around 6.20 pm and 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. “The firefighters have removed nine bodies,” a Delhi Fire Services official said. However, Rohini DCP Rajneesh Gupta said four people have died in the blaze.
The fire spread rapidly as the factory was stuffed with plastic pellets. Four labourers had died out of suffocation. Infact a few of these labourers also died while trying to jump out of the windows of the building, as per TOI report. A Delhi Fire Services official said, “The firefighters have removed nine bodies.” He added that, the fire had broken out around 3.30 pm and was contained around 7. “We have contained the fire on the second floor,” the official said.

The Delhi Government has ordered an enquiry into the incident. Delhi minister Satyendar Jain took to micro-blogging site Twitter, and wrote,”Learnt about a serious fire incident in a private factory at Bawana. Several casualties reported. Monitoring the situation. Ordered enquiry.”

Officials said that the building had several illegal constructions due to which the escape route was blocked. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives. PM Modi tweeted, “Deeply anguished by the fire at a factory in Bawana. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives.
