Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar passed away yesterday, after a long battle with a pancreatic ailment. After his death, the Centre announced a day’s mourning, while the state government will observe the same for seven days. A large number of dignitaries will attend the last rites of the 63-year old in Panaji scheduled to be held today evening. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already reached Panaji to pay his last respects to the departed soul. Apart from being a four-time chief minister of Goa, Parrikar also served as the Union Defence minister from 2014 to 2017.

The IIT-Bombay alumni represented Panaji in Goa assembly seat for more than two decades. His mortal remains are currently being kept at the BJP office in Panaji. From here, the body will be taken to Kala Academy for the public to pay its last respects. His final journey will begin at around 4 pm and the last rites will be performed at 5 pm at Miramar Beach, with full state honours.
