Manohar Parrikar, Union Defence Minister, today denied Congress’ claims that surgical strikes across the Line of
Control (LoC) were carried out by the Indian Army during its rule.
In the wake of the successful recent surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army on terror launch pads in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, several leaders of the Congress had claimed that surgical strikes were carried out during its rule also but the party didn’t make it public for political gains.
The Congress has also blamed the BJP of appropriating the efforts of the brave Indian Army for political gains ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. In a speech after concluding his month-long Kisan rally in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi had accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of doing ‘dalali’ with the blood of soldiers who sacrifice their life for the country.
However, Parrikar today suggested that the Congress’ claims are lies. He said that no surgical strikes were ever carried out across LoC. “I have been Defence Minister for over two years and from whatever I’ve learnt, there was no surgical strike anytime earlier,” he said.
The Defence Minister further said: “What probably they( Congress) are quoting are action taken by Border action teams, which is common practice across the globe including Indian Army.”
Speaking at the ‘Strengthening India’s Defence Capabilities’ event in Mumbai, Parrikar said that people of the country deserve the credit for the surgical strikes.
