Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today announced new Teachers’ Training School (TTS) which will offer various diploma and degree programmes in teaching, a move aimed at preparing excellent teachers in the national capital.

Addressing a ‘Special Session on Value and Ethics in Education’ organised by Indian Education Network here, Sisodia said that instead of value education, educational institutions should focus on “value of education” in schools and colleges.

Sisodia, who also holds education portfolio, said that TTS which will be first of its kind, will come up next year and be affiliated to Ambedkar University, asserting that it would be “best” in India.

“We will set up Teachers Training School where we will offer various teaching programmes including B.ED – MED. It aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice in education.

“TTS would not only prepare excellent teachers but also prepare Teacher Educators,” he said.

According to the Deputy CM, TTS will offer 4 year integrated BA-B.Ed after class 12. It will also have two-year M.Ed, MA in Education, MA in Early Childhood Education. PhD programme and 3 Yr B.Ed-MEd after masters.

As per the planning, government will also offer evening, weekend, summer, winter diploma/degree and certificate programmes in education.

“Delhi government’s Teacher Training School would have in-service certificate diploma/degree programmes for serving teachers,” Sisodia tweeted.

Addressing a programme here, the Deputy CM emphasised on focusing on “value of education” instead of value education.

“In today’s scenario, our children are being prepared as a tool, resource, but value of education stands nowhere. We will prepare our teachers to impart value of education to students,” he further said.
