Maharashtra local body election Result 21 December 2025: Voting is currently underway in 264 municipal councils and nagar panchayats as part of the first phase of Maharashtra’s local body elections. Polling began at 7:30 am and will continue until 5:30 pm.

The counting of votes, which was initially set for December 2, has now been postponed to December 21. The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court issued the directive after polling in some regions was deferred until December 20. The court has instructed that the counting should take place only once the voting process is completed in all affected areas.

Reacting to the directive, Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra said, “I have been following local body elections for 25 years, but I have never seen elections where polling is deferred a day before voting. This reflects a system’s failure. Measures should be taken to ensure such errors are not repeated in the future”.

In this phase, voters will choose representatives for 6,042 seats and elect 264 municipal council presidents. Nearly one crore voters are eligible to vote. These elections are part of the local governance process that the Supreme Court has asked the state to finish by January 31, 2026.

The main fight is between the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). However, in some regions, allied parties may end up competing against each other.

Elections in at least 20 local bodies, including areas like Baramati, Lonavala and parts of Yavatmal, have been delayed to December 20 because of court cases related to nominations and reservation challenges.

When will the results be declared and where to check?

The results for today’s voting will be announced on December 21. You can check the election results on the State Election Commission’s official portals – mahasec.maharashtra.gov.in and mahasecelec.in. The websites will display results ward-wise, constituency-wise and party-wise once counting begins.

How to check the results online?

After opening the website, you can search by selecting filters such as Local Body Type (Municipal Council/Nagar Panchayat), Division (like Pune or Nagpur), District, Taluka and specific Local Body.

You can also view categories like “Elected Candidates”, “Constituency-Wise Results”, “Party-Wise Results” and “Poll Day Reports”.

These are the first major municipal polls after the 2024 assembly election, making them a key political test for the ruling alliance. Out of all seats, 3,492 are reserved for women, 895 for Scheduled Castes, 338 for Scheduled Tribes, and 1,821 for OBCs. To encourage voting, the state has declared a paid holiday today, and the model code of conduct has been in force since November 4.
