Zohra Bibi, a domestic help at Noida’s Mahagun Moderne society had lodged an FIR against her employer who had allegedly confined her and abused her following agitation and stone pelting by the mob. On July 22, almost 10 days after the FIR complaint, the police have filed a closure report due to lack of evidence to support the 26-year-old domestic help’s allegation, reported Indian Express. The police officials also agreed that the report was filed without recording her statement before the magistrate.

The police is investigating on three other FIRs lodged by Zohra’s employer as well as the society on the charges of ‘rioting’, ‘damaging property’ and ‘attempt to murder’. Police have arrested 13 people who had gathered outside the society after Zohra’s alleged disappearance. Though the police admitted that no one was injured in the violence, the people arrested are yet to get bail.

Indian Express reported a family member of the arrested saying that the police never bothered to record Zohra’s statement and shut the case without action whereas they are clueless why three FIRs have been slammed against the accused. ”They never bothered to record Zohra’s statement and closed the case. And why are there three FIRs against the accused? This means each of them needs to take bail thrice. We can’t afford that, especially in the attempt to murder case where the bail is costlier.”

According to the SSP Love Kumar, the reason for three FIRs is based on the sequence of events which occurred, therefore, the first one was filed by the employers of Zohra, and the other two are based on the violence which took place in the society on two different occasions. The police denied any political pressure and said they are still investigating the matter. SP Arun Kumar told Indian Express, “We examined the evidence and it did not give any credence to her (Zohra’s) claims. Hence we filed a closure report.”
