Actor and BJP leader Roopa Ganguly today got nominated to the Rajya Sabha. The actor turned politician became famous after her lead role of Draupadi in the the popular television series ‘Mahabharata’. The 49-year old actress had also acted in a few Hindi and Bengali movies in the 90s.
Being the chief of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha unit, Roopa Ganguly unsuccesfully contested the latest Assembly Election from Howra (North) against her TMC counterpart, cicketer-turned-politician Laxmi Ratan Shukla.
Recently, the BJP leader’s convoy was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons and Roopa Ganguly suffered head injuries, for which she was admitted in the district hospital.
The government had also nominated Pranav Pandya, head of All World Gayatri Pariwar, as Rajya Sabha member in May but he declined it. In his place, the government then nominated Sambhaji Raje, a descendant of Shivaji, to the Rajya Sabha in June.
Sidhu had resigned from the Rajya Sabha in July, about three months after his nomination, and had formed a new front Aawaaz-e-Punjab.
