Madhya Pradesh floods: Situation worsens; death toll rises to 17

The flood situation has been worsened in several districts of Madhya Pradesh as water level has risen above the danger mark.

The flood situation has been worsened in several districts of Madhya Pradesh as water level has risen above the danger mark.

In Vidisha, waters from Betwa river have entered in some parts of the city.

The death toll due to flood-related mishaps has gone up to 17 in the state, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said today.

As per reports, more than 40 villages in Raisen district are on alert due to swollen Narmada.

The water released from overflowing Tawa dam in Madhya Pradesh has flooded low lying areas in some areas of Hoshangabad.

The normal life has been badly disturbed in Vidisha as Betwa is flowing above danger mark.

Flood water has entered in some parts of the city. Essential services like water and power supply have been affected.

In the last three days, relentless Monsoon has wreck havoc over Madhya Pradesh. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan convened a meeting of top officials, including Chief Secretary Anthony de Sa and Director General of Police Rishi Kumar Shukla, and reviewed the situation due to the heavy rains in the state.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has so far rescued about 150 people from Vrindavan garden last evening who were caught in the flood.

More than 1,500 people have been taken to safer places in Vidisha. In Raisen, situation has worsened in areas situated near Narmada as the river is in spate.

A school holiday has been announced in Vidisha, Raisen and Bhopal district today as a precautionary measure.
