The invitation card for the birthday celebrations of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, with Kalaignar’s picture inside a diamond-shaped orb, is not the only eye-catching item. The guest list for the birthday celebrations which falls on June 3 includes who’s who of the Opposition parties, an Indian Express report said.
Among those who have been invited include Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar and Sharad Yadav, Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, and CPI MP D Raja under the header “Greetings”.
However, the party had asked its cadres yesterday to avoid meeting M Karunanidhi on his birthday as per doctors’ advice, PTI reported. His son and working president of party M K Stalin unveiled a website “wishthalaivar.com” to send birthday greetings to the nonagenarian leader online. He also posted his wishes on the new site.
The party while stating that Karunanidhi’s health had improved to a certain extent, advised workers against personal visits so that the top leader does not acquire any infection. Doctors have strictly said “no to personal visits and advised more rest,” the party said, as per PTI.
Top DMK leaders, while requesting cadres to extend cooperation, said that avoiding visiting Kalaignar would be the best birthday gift. Arrangements are being made for a grand celebration of Karunanidhi’s birthday and the diamond jubilee of his legislative career, the agency further reported the Tamil Nadu opposition party as saying.
