According to latest reports, SAD-BJP alliance came in a distant second with 21 seats. BJP managed to win 10 wards. LIP of Bains Brothers won 7 seats and there are four Independent candidates who have won. The biggest shock has been reserved for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Admi Party (AAP). The counting for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Election results took place today. This is a massive results as Ludhiana is a major city in Punjab and Congress has maintained the momentum it gained from the last year’s state assembly polls. Meanwhile, former ruling coaltion Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP will have their tasks cut out.

1:00 PM: Final results are out. Congress has won 61 seats out of the total 95 wards. BJP has managed to bag 10 seats, SAD got 11 wards. Meanwhile, results prove to be big set back for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Admi Party which has bagged just 1. LIP of Bains Brothers has bagged 7 seats and Independents got from 5 wards.
12:00 PM: Congress is virtually sweeping the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation polls as the ruling party in Punjab is leading in 60 wads out of 95. On the other hand, BJP is heading for a disappointment as the BJP-SAD alliance is ahead in just 18 wards. Meanwhile, LIP-AAP alliance is leading in 10 wards
10:50 AM: According to reports, security have heightened following the clashes during the polling. It has been learnt that 108 tables in nine counting centres are being put up. Finall results may be declared by noon.
10:18 AM: Breaking news are coming from Punjab. Congress is leading in 58 wards, BJP and SAD are in distant second and third with 11 and 10 seats in Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Election.
10:00 AM: The SAD-BJP leaders have also urged the governor to direct the Ludhiana administration to register cases against Congress’ Ludhiana MP Ranveet Singh Bittu and MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu. Apart from this SAD-BJP leaders have also also requested that the governor directs the administration to withdraw all false cases registered against workers of the two parties immediately.
9:45 AM: The SAD-BJP delegation has been demanding re-polling in Ludhiana. They alleged that Congress leaders “misused” police personnel deployed there, indulged in “booth capturing and bogus voting”, as well as intimidating SAD-BJP workers.
9:30 AM: “Booth capturing” allegation was leveled against Congress by the leader of opposition in Punjab assembly and AAP MLA Sukhpal Singh Kharia.
9:00 AM: It has been learnt that the SAD-BJP delegation was led by senior leaders like Bikram Singh Majithia, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Dinesh Kumar and Rajinder Bhandari. The opposition leaders have accused the Congress of resorting to “unprecedented violence” along with “booth capturing and rigging”. The SAD-BJP leaders have also alleged that democracy had been “murdered”.
8:45 AM: Meanwhile, the Ludhiana municipal corporation poll has been surrounded by controversy. It has been learnt that a delegation led by SAD-BJP has met Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore. The leaders have urged him to direct the Congress government in the state to scrap the Ludhiana municipal corporation poll process and hold fresh elections.
Notably, under the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, there are around 10.50 lakh voters including 5.67 lakh women, 4.28 lakh women and 23 third gender. PTI reported on 24 February that there were clashed between the opposition and ruling party at several places. It said that Akali workers had fired a shot from his revolver in ward number 75 following clashes with supporters of Varsha Rampal, Congress candidate and Sukhvinder Kaur Bhinda of SAD.
