March 7, witnessed two terrorist activities one after the other which is being marked as the first ISIS attack in India. First, a terrorist identified as Saifullah got holed up inside a house in the Thakurganj locality on the outskirts of state capital Lucknow and the police forces undertook an anti-terror security operation to flush him out as a result of which, he was killed. Within the next few hours after the start of this incident, a low-intensity explosion took place inside a couch of the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train that resulted in 9 people getting injured. Both these incidents have one thing in common, which is the alleged involvement of ISIS.

After the burst of the ISIS module, the Uttar Pradesh police arrested three men identified as Aatish Muzaffar alias Al Kasim, Danish Akhtar alias Jaffar and Syed Mir Hussain alias Humza of Aligarh near Pipariya. Three other men identified as Mohammad Faisal Khan and Mohammad Imran alias Bhai and Fakre Alam alias Rishu of Etawah were nabbed by the police in Kanpur and they recovered mobile phones, laptops from them. Islamic State videos and literature were found after the laptops that were retrieved from the accused were probed. The full name of the ISIS suspect who was gunned down by the police in Thakurganj was Mohammad Saifullah alias Ali and he was a resident of Kanpur. According to the latest developments, Saifullah’s family has disowned him and they have refused to accept his body.
According to an Indian Express report, Shajapur SP Monika Shukla said, “A few people were injured. Most sustained minor injuries because the explosive was kept on the upper seat. There were many passengers in the coach.” Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan, while congratulating the state police, tweeted: “Madhya Pradesh is an island of peace. Those who try to disturb its harmony will not be spared. Those responsible will be brought to justice.”
