Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that Lt Governor Anil Baijal has accepted his government’s proposal to impose a monetary penalty on discoms over power cuts in the national capital, a report by Indian Express has said .
Arvind Kejriwal had met the L-G to discuss several issues like power cuts in the national capital as well as authorities’ readiness on dengue and chikungunya. the CM tweeted after the meeting, “Hon’ble LG agreed DISCOMS shud pay compensation 4 unscheduled power cuts 2 make them accountable. Fairplay n equity 2 consumers 2 be ensured.”
In his tweet, Baijal said, “Met CM @ArvindKejriwal. Discussed issue of power cuts & compensation to consumers. Suggested to devise a rational,fair & enforceable model.”
The AAP Government in July 2015 had asked the power regulator in the capital to include a penalty clause in which discoms will have to pay Rs 50 per hour per house for the first two hours of outage.In case power supply is cut for two hours, then discoms would pay Rs 100 per hour till power supply was restored. The Delhi High Court had said such a move needed approval of the L-G.

Meeting between the two had come a day after power demand of the national capital broke broke all records, touching about 6,526 MW at 3.31pm, the paper said.Load sheddings were reported from Chhatarpur, Uttam Nagar,Patparganj, Laxmi Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Pachim Vihar, Karol Bagh,New Ashok Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Majnu Ka Tila and Tagore Garden . On Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said that discoms should be taken into account by being made to pay compensation to consumers for unscheduled power cuts. The same day, the chief minister had asked Chief Secretary M M Kutty to place the proposal before the L-G, the report added.
