Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday granted a two-week extension i.e, August 4, 2016 to the 9-member panel to probe the case of Bhagwant Mann’s video shooting in the Parliament complex. The AAP MP has been accused of a security breach and asked to not attend the House till the Disciplinary Panel comes to a decision. The Panel chairman Kirit Somaiya had earlier asked for more time to come to a decision on the case as it required examination of more witnesses and discussion of certain critical issues. The Speaker said that Somaiya and other Panel members agreed on requiring more time in order to do justice to the case.
Mahajan said that she had considered all the matters and the factors in the case and has accepted the request for an extension of two weeks. She advised MP Bhagwant Mann to not attend any of the House sittings. Earlier on July 25 when the panel was formed, the Speaker had asked Mann not to attend any House sittings. The Panel was set up as the AAP MP had posted a video of him passing through the security breaches of the Parliament on social media. He had also taken a video of the room in the Parliament complex where questions were being sorted. Earlier on August 1, Mann remained adamant in his opinion of not having breached the security of the Parliament and refused to give an un apology.
Besides Kirit Somaiya, the panel consists of two other BJP members, namely Meenakshi Lekhi and Satyapal Singh. The other members on the panel include Anandrao Adsul of Shiv Sena, Ratna De of the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC), KC Venugopal of Congress, B Mahtab of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and P Venugopal of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
