Actor-turned-politician Sunny Deol on Sunday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The action star is the BJP candidate for Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat in Punjab. Soon after the meeting, the Prime Minister posted a picture with the actor appreciating his ‘humility and deep sense of passion for a better India’. He said: “Happy to have met him today. We are all rooting for his victory in Gurdaspur. We both agree that India will continue to prosper.”

The action star also tweeted about the meeting and said that he was feeling confident after meeting Prime Minister Modi.

Earlier this week, Sunny Deol joined the BJP and was fielded from Gurdaspur — which was represented by the late Vinod Khanna from the BJP. Deol will take on Congress leader Sunil Jakhar, Aam Aadmi Party’s Peter Masih and Punjab Democratic Alliance’s Lal Chand. In 2014, BJP leader Vinod Khanna had won the seat. However, in 2017 by-polls, the BJP lost the seat to Congress.

Immediately after joining the party, the actor said he came to join Prime Minister Modi the way his father Dharmendra was attached with former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee. “I have come to join Modiji. Whatever I can do for this family (BJP), I will do it… I won’t talk, I will show you through my work,” Deol had said.

He was inducted into the party by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal. Addressing the press conference then, Sitharaman praised his role in Border movie and said that the feeling of nationalism and patriotism evoked so beautifully touched the core of Indian citizen. Polling for 13 seats in Punjab will take place in the last phase on May 19 and results will be declared on May 23.
