Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today paid homage to 25 CRPF jawans who were martyred in a deadly Maoist attack. The wreath-laying ceremony took place in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur. State Chief Minister Raman Singh and MoS Home Ministry Hansraj Ahir  also attended the event.  The attack took place between Burkapal-Chintagufa area in south Bastar, the worst Maoist violence-affected district area of the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday expressed his condolences. “We are proud of the valour of our @crpfindia personnel. The sacrifice of the martyrs will not go in vain. Condolences to their families,” he tweeted.

4.35 pm: PTI reports that 25 CRPF jawans who were killed in a deadly Naxal ambush in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, were
having lunch when a hail of bullets and grenades hit them fatally.

3.45 pm: Apprehending influx of Maoists from Chhattisgarh a day after the carnage in Sukma, the Odisha Police today sealed the border with the neighbouring state and sounded a high alert in Malkangiri district, PTI reported.

3.30 pm: In the wake of the Maoist attack in which 25 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed, the Madhya Pradesh police has issued a high alert in the Naxal-affected Balaghat district, a senior official said today, PTI reported.

1:45 pm: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today visited the house of CRPF jawan K K Das who was killed in the Naxal attack at Sukma in Chhatisgarh and said that the state govrnment would give Rs five lakh to the family of the slain jawan, as per PTI report.

1:40 pm: “Of the 25 CRPF jawans killed in the attack, three hailed from West Bengal. Two were from Cooch Behar and another was from Nadia district. We have decided to give financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the three slain jawans. We will also provide jobs to them”, she told reporters, the PTI report said.

At the same, I appeal the West Bengal government to take strict action against the people who are involved in Maoists activities running at Jadavpur University.”

7:40 am: Condemning the deadly attack on CRPF personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday tore into the West Bengal Government for not taking a firm hand in the rampant ‘Maoist activities’ prevalent in the Jadavpur Univeristy, news agency ANI reported.

6:56 am: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has expressed ‘distress’ over the incident. “I am distressed to hear of the tragic loss of 26 brave CRPF personnel in Sukma (Chhatisgarh) in a Naxal attack today,” she tweeted.
