03:40 PM: Ousted BCCI chief Anurag Thakur said that BCCI is the best managed sports organisation in the country and India has the best cricket infrastructure in the world. Reacting on the decision of the Supreme Court that removed him as the President of BCCI, he said that for him it was not a personal battle but for the autonomy of the sports body and he respects the apex court like any citizen should.

03:25 PM: Home Minister of Karnataka, G Parameshwara called report of molestation incident in Bengaluru, where a huge mob molested women on the first day of New Year, was “unfortunate”. He said that there were more than 25 CCTV cameras were installed and they will be examined. State DGP Om Prakash also said that culprits will be identified and required action will be taken against them.

10:25 AM: Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav to leave for Delhi. Answering questions of media in the morning, Mulayam Singh said he was “completely healthy” and added no one could accuse him of wrongdoing as he had never indulged in corruption or betrayed anyone.

10:00 AM: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has called a meeting of Samajwadi Party’s MLAs at 11am. Akhilesh was chosen as national president of the party at a national convention held in Lucknow on Sunday. However, Mulayam Singh Yadav declared all the decision taken in the convention as illegal soon after it concluded.

09:45 AM: Stock markets opened on a subdued note on the first trading day of 2017, with the benchmark BSE Sensex falling over 132 points in early trade on profit-booking after recent gains. The 30-share index, which had gained 415.78 points in the previous two sessions, fell 132.37 points, or 0.50 per cent, to 26,494.09 in early trade today.
