Baramulla attack: Days after India’s surgical strikes across the LoC, the BSF successfully foiled terrorists’ entry bid in Indian Army and BSF camps on Sunday night. Last night’s attack took place exactly a fortnight after terrorists struck at the army brigade headquarters at Uri, killing 19 soldiers. The terrorists, two of which have been neutralized, launched a ‘Fidayeen’ (suicide) attack in Baramulla on the camps in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla. One BSF jawan has been martyred in the attack and another has been injured. The gunfire started around 10:30 PM last night, and the situation is now under control, while search operations have reportedly ended. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar chaired a high-level meet with the Defence forces chiefs Dalbir Singh Suhag, Arup Raha and Sunil Lanba, who submitted their report on the attack. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also spoken to National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to review the security situation. Singh said that security forces are giving a “befitting reply” to such attempts by Pakistan-based terrorist groups.
Meanwhile, Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif also chaired an all-party meeting in Islamabad, where he is reported to have said that “Pakistan stands united against Indian aggression”. The attack by terrorists comes within days of India’s surgical strikes across LoC, in which the Indian Army had destroyed several terrorist launch pads. The attack by the Army is said to have caused heavy terrorist casualties across the LoC, including two soldiers of the Pakistani Army. Security forces have been on high alert after the strikes, which are widely seen as a retaliation to the Uri attack, in which 20 Indian soldiers had been martyred. Pakistan on its part has denied any surgical strikes by India. Interestingly, and in a blow to Pakistan, its former President Pervez Musharraf has admitted that the country has been isolated globally due to ‘wrong policies’ and its relations with US have also deteriorated.
