What to do about cheating?

What to do about cheating?
Apropos of your editorial ‘Cheat Code’, cheating in examinations in our structured education system is not an uncommon malpractice in our country. It is not restricted to Bihar, though what was shown to have happened in the state exceeded all limits of comprehension. The malpractice is sometimes sought to be justified on grounds that the teachers do not prepare the students well for the exams and the syllabi are too hard for average students to grasp. A considerate administration does not deploy adequate police personnel to prevent answer chits being handed over to the examinees. Marks and grades decide one’s future more than his or her knowledge and skill. This explains the rampant prevalence of cheating in exams, which can be done away with by introducing more imaginative and meaningful methods of testing the students.

OBC conundrum
Apropos of your editorial ‘Caste-away’, if the verdict of the learned judges of the Supreme Court striking down the inclusion of the advanced community of the Jats in the central list of OBCs is a master stroke, Justice Gogoi, who wrote the judgment, deserves additional accolades for directing the government to consider some other really backward sections, like the transgenders, for inclusion in the list of OBCs. Further, complete reassessment of and review of the list of present MBCs is very necessary considering the fact that while a few of the communities in the list deserve to be shifted to the SC category in view of their utter poverty, many other communities have to be removed from the list as they are more forward now.
