This refers to your report “Boeing ends contract with HAL” (July 30) by Huma Siddiqui. The report is largely speculative, baseless and devoid of truth. We deny what is published in the report. Moreover, the report points out that Boeing also refused to comment. The fact is currently, HAL is supplying precision work packages to Boeing IDS and Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group for various projects like P8I, F18 Super Hornet, Boeing 777 aircraft. Many of these are long term contracts and some of them date as early as 1998 and HAL has been successful in securing follow-on orders. This has been possible only because HAL facilities and systems meet the Boeing standards in terms of quality and delivery. Also note that for P8I Weapon door program HAL was contracted to supply eight sets of doors and HAL has been successful in indigenising and has supplied seven sets as on date. The last set is slated for delivery in the current financial year. There has been no fore-closure as stated in your report. The Company has been single golden supplier for the Boeing 777 aircraft uplock assembly for years and this is the best example of Make-in-India. HAL has a Boeing rating of 99% for Quality and 100% for deliveries. HAL has also received the “Supplier of the Year” award in 2009. The question of “poor quality” as you put in the headline is completely misleading. There were not “repeated reminders” as claimed in the report. It is another matter that a large company such as Boeing may be doing business with other vendors and companies for their various requirement. We expect the respected daily like yours to cross check the facts and not merely rely on unsubstantiated comments before publishing.
