With great enthusiasm and devotion, people of Kerala are preparing for the last day of the ongoing 10-day harvest festival of Onam.

Onam, which is also known as the state festival of Kerala, is an annual celebration of the homecoming of King Mahabali, who is believed to come from the nether world to check on his citizens. With great enthusiasm and devotion, people of Kerala are preparing for the last day of the ongoing 10-day harvest festival of Onam.

People, filled with great energy and excitement, were seen across the markets in the city indulged in last minute shopping.

Onam, which is also known as the state festival of Kerala, is an annual celebration of the homecoming of King Mahabali, who is believed to come from the nether world to check on his citizens. Kerala witnessed its golden period under the reign of King Mahabali.

The grandeur of the festival attracts hundreds of people across the country to this state, which is also known as the Gods own country.

Flower sales also reported a rise as people bought flowers to make flower carpets, called pookalams that form an important part of the 10-day festival.
